We love holidays. But, most of all we love holiday meals; the turkey, the stuffing, the pumpkin pie and many, many more delicious meals. But, there’s only one thing that we’re not very crazy about, the feeling we get after we eat a big meal. That feeling when you are stuffed to the point of discomfort after an indulgent dinner, and wondering what it’s going to take to feel like your healthy self again. Don’t worry, there are a lot of ways to get back on track after overeating, without starving yourself or doing hours of cardio.

Don’t feel guilty

You ate it. You can’t go backwards, so there is no reason to go hard on yourself and feel guilty. Feeling guilty doesn’t lead to healthier eating, just tell yourself you’ll start making healthier decisions starting right now.

Go for a walk

After you’re done eating the best thing to do is to rest for some minutes and then take a long walk. A walk in a fresh air would make you feel better. This can aid digestion and help decrease the fat your body stores.

Drink water

Hydration is key to everything. Since holiday drinking can leave you dehydrated, the best thing to do is load up on the water and add lemon to it. It helps speeding up the process of flushing toxins from the body. Especially if you have been drinking alcohol, it will help prevent dehydration, a major cause of hangovers. The general rule is to drink at least one full glass of water for every alcoholic beverage.

Get leftovers out of sight

Moving extra food out of sight and out of mind will help you return to your normal healthy eating routine over the next few days. There are a lot of delicious meals which you can eat and recover from the holiday excess, such as; sweet potatoes, rice, leafy greens.
