“I always had long hair. When you lose it, you realise just how important it is to your identity”.
It can’t grow overnight – Hair growth is a common desire of many naturals. Hair typically only grows about a quarter of an inch – to a half an inch max- a month. Depending on your personal genetics, your hair may grow more quickly or more slowly. So, practice patience.
Scissors are your friend. Getting regular trims to snip splits will keep your hair looking healthy and prevent splits from working their way up strands. Even if you just get half an inch trimmed off, it will freshen your look every time. The more you cut it, the more it will grow. Not only grow, but grow healthy. I mean, what’s the point of having long hair if it’s not healthy, shiny?
Don’t shampoo every time you shower. You should skip shampoo as much as possible. I know it might sound crazy, but washing your hair only with water its way healthier for your hair, and it makes your hair longer.
Do a cold-water rinse at the end of each shower. Cold water lays down the outer layer of hair more smoothly, which helps prevent moisture loss, snags and heat damage. If you are not a fan of cold water, or you are currently in winter, you might as well clean your hair in your sink. I mean things we do for things we love…
Give your hair a break when it comes to hot tools, chemical relaxers, or any other tool or service that causes a lot of damage to your hair. The healthier your hair is, the longer it will grow.
Brush your hair carefully. The way you brush your hair can cause physical harm to your hair, especially when your hair is wet, be sure to start brushing from the bottom and work your way up.
Change the way you wash your hair. How often you wash your hair and what temperature you use, can affect the length of your hair. Try to wash your hair not more than 3 times a week, and use the coldest water you can handle.
Dry your hair gently. Don’t brush you hair while it’s wet. Don’t blow dry your hair except for special occasions.
Also, the way you eat, can affect the length of your hair. You should be careful. Try to eat more protein, eat omega-3 fatty acids, drink plenty of water, have a good night sleep.
